I’ve learned there is no such thing as normal, not just through speculative fiction but from working with students with special needs. There are generally no ‘normal’ days or students. Every day, every student is unique and I’ve learned so much from them, even though the majority of people I’ve worked with are non-verbal. I will remember each and every one of them as long as I still have a memory. They have often made me speculate about what they might be like if they were ‘mainstream’ students, but I realize, they probably would not be as interesting. 🙂
Good point. It is important to remind ourselves that there is no such thing as a “normal” body or “normal” way of learning. I think we can benefit a lot from the diversity in our world and instead of trying to get everyone to conform to an invented idea of normalcy, I think we can learn from the differences in our society.
