An Interview with Drs. John Moores and Jesse Rogerson

I recently heard about an amazing upcoming book called Daydreaming in the Solar System by Drs. John Moores and Jesse Rogerson that would explore Science education about the solar system through science fiction stories. I was so fascinated, I had to contact them for an interview. John and Jesse are both professors of space sciences at York University, and their aim was to make the science of the solar system accessible for folks. I was so excited to learn about their work and learn a bit of fascinating information about the solar system.


Dr John Moores is an Associate Professor in the Centre for Research in Earth and Space Science at York University. He is a member of the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists, a recipient of the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute’s McCurdy Award and served as the Science Advisor to the President of the Canadian Space Agency from 2022-2024. John holds a BASc in Engineering Science from the University of Toronto and a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in Planetary Science. An author on over 100 articles in planetary science, John has also been a member of five NASA and ESA-led space mission teams.

Dr. Jesse Rogerson is a passionate astronomy and space sciences educator and communicator. As an Assistant Professor at York University he works to create and engage students and the public in conversations on how science and society intersect, and why space is relevant in our daily lives. Jesse earned a PhD in astrophysics from York University, and has worked in three of Canada’s top science museums.
